Key Responsibilities

As an airfield lighting electrician, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Install, maintain, and repair airfield lighting systems and electrical infrastructure.
  • Perform electrical installations, including cables, transformers, and associated equipment.
  • Conduct testing and inspections to ensure compliance with aviation safety standards.
  • Maintain airport assets in accordance with ICAO regulations and operational requirements.
  • Work on active airfields while ensuring uninterrupted airport and aircraft operations.
  • Coordinate activities safely on live taxiways and runways.
  • Follow strict health, safety, and operational procedures at all times.
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of IT-based control systems.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical f
  • aults and system issues.
  • Travel regularly to regional airports across New Zealand and occasionally Australia.
  • Participate in maintenance programs that may involve both day and night shifts.
  • Collaborate with project teams to deliver specialized aviation infrastructure solutions.

Qualifications

To qualify for the job you will need:

  • Current EWRB Trade Qualification and Electrical Practicing License.
  • Previous experience working as an electrician.
  • Strong understanding of electrical systems, installations, and maintenance procedures.
  • Ability to work in physically demanding outdoor environments.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Strong commitment to workplace health and safety practices.
  • Ability to travel extensively throughout New Zealand and occasionally Australia.
  • Experience working in safety-critical environments is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of airfield lighting systems is beneficial but not essential.
  • IT or networking experience will be considered an advantage.
  • Ability to work independently and manage responsibilities effectively.
  • Valid New Zealand driver’s license preferred.
